Winter Haircare Routine: 5 Ways to Keep Your Locks from Getting Dry and Brittle

When you love winters but not your dry hair, we feel you. During winters your hair tends to feel dry and brittle and hard to style. But having dry hair doesn’t mean that you have some major health problem, or that there’s anything wrong with the hair that you have. Sun exposure, heat styling, moisture, smoking, and much more lead to damaged and dry hair. But don’t you worry we’ve got your back.

There are a few things you can do if you feel like reducing the dryness of your hair.

Avoid washing your hair every day

Shampoo eliminates dirt and oil from your scalp, but still strips your hair off sebum trusted sources. Sebum is the natural oil that makes it easy to manage. Too much sebum adds to the appearance of greasy hair.

So you certainly don’t have to shed your hair of sebum every day. As a result, you will more likely shampoo your hair every other day and see that your hair looks better. At least use a herbal shampoo especially for dry hair or even try a baby shampoo if you can’t go a day in between washing. Both are gently cleansing without stripping hair entirely of its natural oil.

Cut down on heat styling

Heat styling might have been a part of your everyday routine for years to curl, straighten, or add texture to your hair. That could be the explanation of why your hair is drying out as well.

Hold the dryer at least 6 inches away from your hair shaft for the best results if you are trying to blow dry your hair.

Chill on the hot water

When it’s chilly outside, who doesn’t want a hot steamy shower? Although it will probably rejuvenate you after a busy, long day, your hair might tell you otherwise. In fact, hot water will strip your scalp of its natural oils and dry up your (and skin!) hair shaft. We suggest soaking and shortening the shower sessions in warm or lukewarm water. And turn to cold water at the end to help seal the hair follicles and lock in moisture if you’re feeling extra brazen!

Double Up on the Hair Nourishing and Hair Moisturizing

Restore moisture during chill months by giving your hair a deep-rooted conditioning hair treatment every week. Apply an overnight hair mask or a herbal hair butter does wonders for your strands: which nourishes the scalp, strengthens, repairs restores moisture to the hair. It makes hair silkier and manageable which gets depleted due to the change in temperature from dry to cold. While your hair is still damp, we recommend coating your hair with a natural, lightweight serum oil before blow-drying your hair.

Turn to natural remedies to treat your locks

Take ¼ cup of olive oil and part your hair, section by section. Gently massage the oil from your scalp to the ends as well. Now wrap your hair in a shower cap and leave it on for an hour or so. Finish off by shampooing your hair with lukewarm water and pat dry your hair. Bid goodbye to brittle and lifeless hair
